Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology
Research:
The main areas of research of the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology are neuropharmacology, neurobiology and neuro-immunopharmacology. With our research we are contributing to the faculty’s two main research areas neurobiology and immunology.
Using state-of-the-art technologies including behavioral pharmacology, molecular biology, protein chemistry, cell biology and microscopy we are interested in the molecular mechansims of neuron-astrocyte communication for synapse formation and synaptic plasticity, the mechanisms of addiction and tolerance, the biological underpinnings of schizophrenia and the functional role of opioide and cannabinoide receptors and their ligands for the interplay of the nervous and immune system.
Science:
The teaching activities of the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology cover the topics of general and specialized pharmacology and toxicology for medical students. The programme includes lectures and seminars.
